A1-SLOPE

When I started at Bushnell Golf, the A1 Slope project which was originally intended solely for the Asian was already in the concept phase.

Bushnell had been working with a South Korean Design Firm with the intention to leverage their knowledge and experience designing for the Asian Golf market.

The goal of this project was to Design the smallest possible LRF while staying true to the Bushnell Design Language.

The Korean design firm came up with the Red, Silver and Gray LRF you see below.

I feel that their concept was unnecessarily bulky, busy and lacked visual cohesiveness.

The silver top piece acted as a hat, covering up the ends of the pieces below it.

I feel that their their top rib texture pattern made the Rondel B appear out of place.

The idea to have the bottom form be two different parts made me think that they did not take into account our manufacturing budget.

My intention for A1 SLOPE was to have it’s visual focal point be the Rondell B.

Based on the limitation of the Laser Range Finder’s chassis I lowered the Rondel B to the vertical center of the Laser Range Finder while also bringing it forward from where the original concept had placed it.

The back of the Orange part was intentionally designed to end at the vertical middle of the LRF so that the users eyes would go towards the Rondel B.

Since the Bushnell logo was not allowed to be placed at an angle, it was determined that we should keep the classic half circle bottom grip.

I offset the top rib texture evenly from both the Rondel B and the front of the Top piece.

The A1-SLOPE logo was placed at the same angle as the bottom edge of the Top piece.

The Bottom of the Bushnell Logo lines up with the bottom of the Top piece.

Looking back at this project I wish that management had approved adding a Bite Pad to the final form and not make the silicone sleeve with built in BITE Pad.
